Visual Novel Kit for Yarn Spinner
Visual Novel Kit for Yarn Spinner is a paid add-on for making visual novels in Unity. You write the whole visual novel in Yarn: the dialogue, and the Commands that put characters and backgrounds on screen, move them around, and play music and sound effects.
Visual Novel Kit for Yarn Spinner is not part of Yarn Spinner, and it isn’t included in Yarn Spinner+. It’s a separate purchase, and it works with either Yarn Spinner or Yarn Spinner+.

The VNKit Template playing from the start: the beach background fades in, Capsley appears on the left, the Witch walks in, and the Dragon arrives from the right.
What’s included
- The Visual Novel Kit for Yarn Spinner package. A prefab that you add to a scene, a Configuration asset for setting up how your visual novel looks, and the Commands you use in your Yarn scripts.
- Characters and backgrounds. Show characters in named slots across the stage, change their expressions with a hashtag on their lines, move them, and change the background. Characters that aren’t speaking are dimmed.
- Audio. Music, ambience and sound effects, played with Commands, and voice lines that play by themselves when you name the audio files after your line IDs.
- Standalone mode. A main menu, saving and loading, and keyboard and controller support, for games that are only a visual novel.
- The VNKit Template. A Unity project with Visual Novel Kit for Yarn Spinner set up, a short sample story, and placeholder art and audio, so you can start writing straight away.
Requirements
- Unity 6 or later.
- Yarn Spinner for Unity 3.2.8 or later.
The VNKit Template is set up for Unity 6000.3.23f1.
